Unlike your typical toasted bread, kaya toast is more often toasted not in an oven toaster but directly on top of a hot flat stainless grill. The piece of bread is usually sliced thinner into two and toasted to perfection with kaya spread and butter/margarine melting inside.
Now comes the most exciting part, the soft boiled egg. Raw egg submerged in boiled water for 6 minutes gives you the perfect soft boiled egg to pair with your kaya toast. Usually served shelled, breaking the egg into a deep saucer always excites me! Season it with pepper and a type of sweet soy sauce and its ready! I like dipping my Kaya Toast to the soft boiled egg mixture. Try it!
Make sure to order a cup of kopi which often comes with the set anyway. Check my post on kopi here.
This mouth watering toast set can be found almost everywhere in Singapore. I strongly recommend the more commercial kaya toast shops like Yakun Kaya, Toast Box and Killiney.
Commercial Kaya Toast Set: approximately S$4.00 to S$5.00
Hawker Kaya Toast Set: approximately @$2.50 to S$3.50
