Singapore's National Dish!

I'm not really sure if its appropriate to call it Singapore's National Dish.  I cannot find any legitimate source that says it is, but almost all food bloggers claim it anyway.  Yup!  You know what I'm talking about.  Chicken Rice!

Succulent boiled chicken usually cut into tender strips on top of rice cooked from chicken broth with chili, garlic, ginger condiments on the side.  Chicken rice is an absolute must try in Singapore!  Its impossible even for a tourist like you to miss this dish cause you are sure to see it everywhere!  On Jetstar's in flight menu, 5 Star hotels, Inside Universal Studios, Hawker Centers, Groceries, 7-Eleven, Classy Restaurants.. Yes!  This dish has conquered Singapore and nobody can escape from it!  Even vegetarians will be able to enjoy mock chicken rice sold in some hawker centers.

So with all the chicken rice around Singapore, the big question is, where is the best chicken rice?  Although chicken rice to me tastes the same everywhere, some of them stand out because of the tenderness and flavor of the chicken as well as the sauces or condiments that come with it.  I have a few recommendations that you might want to try.

Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice.  Its a stall in one of the city's famous hawker center Maxwell Food Court.  Just in front of The Temple in ChinaTown, Maxwell has some of the best local dishes in Singapore and of the chicken rice from this stall is at the top of the list.  Don't be surprised if there's a very long queue cause its really really good!  Price: S$3.50 to S$5.00

Chatter Box Meritus Mandarin.  If you want a quiet and more luxurious venue to enjoy your chicken rice, this is the place to be!  The most expensive chicken rice I have ever tasted, but you won't regret it!  This generous serving of sumptuous chicken rice will make you forget how expensive it is and having it in this posh restaurant is a totally different experience.  You can share one order cause the portion is huge!  Price: S$28.00++

Jetstar.  I am not a fan of in-flight meals, but this one for me stands out from the rest.  The in-flight chicken rice of Jetstar is a must try.  You can't expect it to be perfectly cooked, but the flavors are just mouth watering.  The chicken is super tender and the broth is thick and tasty.  Sometimes I can't help but close my eyes and savor the goodness of this chicken rice while in the sky!  Oh.. and its perfect with beer!  Price S$12.00

So there it is!  I'm sure there's a lot more chicken rice around Singapore that is as good if not better than my recommendations.  So go and explore all of them and enjoy your chicken rice!
